Controversial Facebook Photos of the Day: Air National Guard members Terran Echegoyen-McCabe and Christina Luna recently posted to Facebook several pics of themselves breastfeeding in fatigues — which they do all the time on Fairchild Airforce Base in Spokane, Washington – and their photos have prompted outcry from around the world.
No matter that there are no rules in military conduct against breastfeeding in uniform; one disparaging Facebook comment compared the images to “urinating and defecating.”
Fellow soldier Rita Trujillo commented:
“I as one of many women who fought long and hard to be accepted and respected as fellow soldiers and the right to wear these uniforms feel shocked, angry at these published photos.”
The photos were taken for the Mom2Mom Breastfeeding Support Group, which raises awareness of women’s right to breastfeed in public.

America hates mothers in a way that is so insipid, you have WOMEN disparaging other WOMEN for doing what the breast was intended to do and being active engaged mothers.
And why?
Because “I as one of many women who fought long and hard to be accepted and respected as fellow soldiers and the right to wear these uniforms feel shocked, angry at these published photos.”
This is a statement made by a woman about how women feeding their children in their work fatigues damages her status and acceptance as a female soldier. Meaning motherhood is seen as something “weak” and breastfeeding is “dirty”.
Patriarchy is a hell of a drug.
—- If it were just two women with their breasts out with the fatigues on I wonder what the response would’ve been. How dare they make women appear so womanly tho, using their secondary sex organs for their primary purpose. Fo shame!
Ok, I’ll admit that sometimes when I see some stories/anectdotes/reports where they speak about injustices and racism faced by Black people, and people of color, and then a White person interjects to say, “oh me too” “not just black people face this xyz…” I sometimes feel that they get hit with a pretty harsh backlash. I feel for some of them, because some of them make the comments innocently and sincerely without malice in their hearts.
Howtheefuckever, I just saw a comment like that on a story that I was reading, and I got so friggin pissed off. Schewwwwwwwps. I get it. Shit happens. to PEOPLE. but can we have a story here about how it affects people of color?? Abeg yuh go long!

One of my friends just commented on this facebook pic of me, “I so ♥ this picture. I look at it every time I’m having a bad day. Instant joy! LoL”
So sweet. I wonder what she’ll say to my recent BC pics. hehe. They don’t go up on fb for some months or until the spirit moves me. I’m on a lo-pro (low profile) steez on there (not just hair, but life) which I don’t know why really. *shrugs*

I’ve seen a ton on the facebooks about “thanking veterans for their service.” As a veteran let me just be very straightforward and honest with you. We didn’t “serve our country”; we don’t actually serve our brothers/sisters or our neighbors. We serve the interests of Capital. We never risked our lives or spent months on deployment away from our family and friends so they can have this abstract concept called “freedom”. We served big oil; big coal; Coca-Cola; Kellogg, Brown, and Root and all the other big Capital interests who don’t know a fucking thing about sacrifice. These people will never have to deal with the loss of a loved one or the physical and/or psychological scars that those who “serve”, and their families, have to deal with for the rest of their lives. The most patriotic thing someone can do is to tell truth to power and dedicate yourself to building power to overthrow these sociopathic assholes. I served with some of the most real and genuine people I’ve ever met. You’ll never see solidarity like the kind of solidarity you experience when your life depends on the person next to you. But most of us didn’t join for that; we joined because we were fucking poor and didn’t have many other options.
